Surrey Heath Museum’s existing site at Surrey Heath House has now closed. We intend to open a permanent display in the Heritage Gallery in The Square, Camberley, on Saturday 30th June. We will also have a small display at Camberley Library and outreach projects/displays around the borough of Surrey Heath.
It is a very exciting time for the Surrey Heath Heritage Services team with a chance to create a new permanent display space with events, both in the heart of the community. We will also be working more closely with our valued community stakeholders.
Thanks to all those who attended the museum public meeting last night. Over 50 people attended and after a presentation by Gill Riding (Senior Heritage Officer) on the museum service, past , current and the future, they split into small groups to discuss the heritage of the area, what it means to them, where they want to see the museum in 5 years’ time and what the Heritage Supporters Group should look like. The feedback and comments showed the true meaning of heritage locally – the appreciation of it, the need to raise its profile (especially to the younger generation) and how important it was in people’s lives. David Anderson (Change Manager) led the discussion session and our thanks go to him and all those who enthusiastically took part.
